About NIA

Created by Debbie Rosas and Carlos AyaRosas over 25 years ago, the Nia Technique is a dynamic body-mind-spirit fitness practice combining martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. Balancing technical precision and freeform expressive play, Nia emphasizes creativity, conditioning, community and individual explorations. With a philosophy rooted in cultivating awareness, experiencing the joy of movement, and celebrating uniqueness, Nia delivers a fun, effective and powerful life practice for all ages and movement experience levels.

Each class incorporates 7 cycles – Setting the focus, stepping in to the practice, warming up, get moving, cooling down, floorplay and stepping out. Participants wear comfortable clothing and bring water. Class is traditionally done barefoot. The music is diverse and chosen carefully to stimulate and inspire.
